ATS 2025 Accreditation Decisions Bring Stability and Change Across Seminaries

By Seminary Review Team

The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) Commission on Accrediting issued its summer 2025 accreditation decisions, impacting dozens of North American seminaries. The actions include ten-year reaffirmations, probation extensions, new degree approvals, and campus relocations.

Ten-year reaffirmations were granted to Asbury Theological Seminary, Duke Divinity School, Luther Seminary, and Lancaster Theological Seminary, among others. Each institution was also approved for comprehensive distance education, reflecting the continued growth of online theological training.

Monitoring assignments were issued for several schools facing financial or enrollment challenges, including Eden Theological Seminary and Pentecostal Theological Seminary. International Theological Seminary’s probation for financial resources was extended one year for good cause.

ATS also approved new degrees and relocations: Dominican House of Studies received a Ph.D. in Thomistic Theology, and Missio Theological Seminary moved its Philadelphia campus to Sharon Baptist Church. Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) received approval for its planned relocation to Trinity Western University’s campus in Langley, British Columbia, effective Fall 2026.

The full list of actions is published on the ATS website, providing transparency on the evolving landscape of theological education.
