Moravian University Finalizes Merger with Lancaster Theological Seminary
Moravian University has officially completed its merger with Lancaster Theological Seminary, following final approval from the U.S. Department of Education. The two schools have now combined to form the Moravian School of Theology.
The merger preserves the distinctive heritages of both institutions. Lancaster will continue to serve the United Church of Christ tradition, while Moravian Theological Seminary upholds its Moravian roots. Together, they will offer joint programs including the Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Arts, and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.).
University leaders celebrated the move as a win for sustainability and mission alignment. “By combining resources and faculty, we can prepare future church leaders more effectively,” said Moravian’s president in a statement. The joint curriculum began in Fall 2024, and the schools will now consolidate administrative operations.
Earlier this year, Lancaster Theological Seminary secured a ten-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Association of Theological Schools, ensuring stability as the new School of Theology launches.
