Concordia Lutheran Seminary (AB)

Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS) in Edmonton, Alberta, was established in 1984 to prepare pastors in the confessional tradition of the Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC), which is a member of the International Lutheran Council. The seminary is situated on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, near Concordia University of Edmonton, and focuses on Lutheran theology. It provides education for ministry in LCC congregations and partner churches, with a curriculum that maintains elements of Lutheran heritage.

The primary program is the Master of Divinity (MDiv), a four-year full-time course requiring 100 credit hours, intended mainly for individuals aiming for pastoral ministry in LCC, but also available to members of other church bodies interested in Lutheran theology. The curriculum covers sacraments, classical languages (with Greek and Hebrew as prerequisites), doctrinal preaching, and Lutheran confessions, spanning exegetical, systematic, historical, and practical theology. Students participate in co-curricular units that focus on practical skills, field education, and a final exam. LCC candidates can obtain the Theological Diploma, which indicates doctrinal alignment and suitability for ministry.

Student activities at CLS include daily liturgies, fellowships, mission opportunities, and field experiences intended to support classroom learning and develop pastoral skills. The seminary emphasizes community and practical involvement to help students develop a Lutheran perspective for ministry in northern regions.
